Breaking news from New York City states that a plainclothes NYPD officer has been rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a suspect shot him in the head and chest. Reportedly on duty at the time of the shooting in the Queens Village section of the city, the 6:15pm est event has authorities initiating a massive effort to apprehend the suspect.
Although the officer was hit three times, one of them a head injury, Jamaica Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery states his injuries are not life-threatening.
UPDATE:
After a 90 minute manhunt and assistance from bystanders, police arrested Demetrius Blackwell, 35, near the crime scene. Blackwell was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
