Governor Abbott Commands State Guard to Monitor Jade Helm 15 Operation

Texas has long been recognized as a state that holds the history of their independence in the highest of regards, and Governor Greg Abbott is now saying through his actions that the federal initiative “Jade Helm” will be no different, as he commands General Betty to keep Texans properly informed as the upcoming military exercise visits his state.

The U.S. Army is stating that the unprecedented military operation Jade Helm 15 has been specifically designed to train our special forces units such as the Army’s Green Berets, Air Force and Marine Special Operations Commands, Marine Expeditionary Units, and the 82nd Airborne Division in tactics for defending the infrastructure of our Nation.

Slated to take place in various locations across the state starting July 15th – Sept 15th of 2015, it is raising the concerns of many Texas citizens as to whether this exercise is really to protect US citizens, or ferret-out pockets of patriotic Americans who are willing to defend their country from all forms of tyranny, foreign or domestic.

In fact on Monday, command spokesman Lt. Col. Mark Lastoria attended a Bastrop County Commissioners meeting, set up so he could answer community questions and was met with hostile fire. Lastoria, in response to some of the questions, sought to dispel fears that foreign fighters from an Islamic State were being brought in or that Texans’ guns would be confiscated.  According to a report in the Austin American-Statesman, Lastoria was forced to refute that martial law was even a consideration and that many had a “personal agenda” to spread fear mongering misinformation.

“You may have issues with the administration. So be it. But this institution right here has been with you for over 200 years,” he was quoted saying. “I’ve worn this uniform across five different administrations for 27 years.

Lastoria’s pointed retorts as to “misinformation” may not have been intended to target Austin radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, but for those that follow his show, know that he has been sending out warnings regarding the exercise for weeks, stating the U.S. military is aligning themselves to declare martial law and take control of the United States.

Governor Abbott is taking it upon himself to ensure that the citizens of the Great Republic of Texas can rest assured that he and his staff will be monitoring the events that transpire prior to, during and after this exercise, do not violate the constitutional rights of his citizens.

In a letter to the Commander of the Texas State Guard Major General Gerald “Jake” Betty, Abbott urges him to monitor all aspects of the operation in regards to the interests of Texas residents, ensuring that they stay well-informed.  He wants to make certain that it is clear and precise that Texans know that their “safety, constitutional rights, private property and civil liberties will not be “infringed”  in any way.

The State Guard will be responsible for monitoring the military operation throughout its entirety making all military personnel movements and training exercise schedules public knowledge.

Abbott ends his letter with;  “The action I take today comes with the recognition of Texas’ long history of supporting our military forces and our proud tradition of training, deploying, and supporting our active-duty troops and returning veterans. As Governor, I have the utmost respect for the deep patriotism of the brave military men and women who put their lives on the line to fight and defend our freedom. I remain certain that our military members will keep America the freest and strongest nation the world has ever known.”

The State Guard will be monitoring. However if the tables turn and Martial Law becomes a reality, WILL The Guard fight to defend Texas and the freedoms my ancestor forfeited his life at The Alamo to defend?

  2. some people won’t be happy until this country suffers another civil war.
This business of turning our armed services against each other is not good for America.
The Texes National Guard is not the governer’s private army to play silly dangerous games with.

This is a pretty smart response from Gov. Abbott. Jade Helm 15 is concerning for several reasons, including its unprecedented scale and the fact that the military has facilities for simulating urban settings for training purposes that they should be using instead of conducting training operations in and around civilian areas. America has a strong tradition of support of the Posse Comitatus Act, which deliberately limits the military’s domestic activities. The military answers to a federal chain of command, and states have always rightfully been suspicious of military activity that is outside their control.
The Guard answers to the governor however, so it is appropriate that he use it to reassure Texans that the state authorities are monitoring the situation. I expect the operations to go off more or less as advertised, with no hidden surprises, as some seem to fear.
Personally, I believe these operations are designed and intended to desensitize civilians to a military presence, for reasons I cannot fathom but do not feel good about.

  4. Again, we have people running off at the mouth about things they know nothing about. The Texas State Guard is NOT the National Guard, but a state constitutional militia . It receives excess equipment from the state to support its mission in training to prepare for the defense of the state. It trains regularly. HaS its own uniforms whose left tabs say Texas State Guard. On any weekend you may recognize the members by their slightly relaxed grooming standards. Now, pull out a Texas Constitution and read before you embarrass yourselves any further.

  5. The military trains for all kinds of things they hope they never need. I would hate for a horrible situation that requires martial law happen and our military not be trained to deal with it. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
