The media thought they were going to demonize this group of patriots. Armed with little logic and fewer facts, the Leftist media set out to make a splash. It backfired.
After observing four men carrying modern firearms defending the streets of riot-torn Ferguson Missouri, writers from leftist news agencies quickly seized the opportunity to inject their “spin” into the equation. Racism, guns and rioting – oh joy!
The Patriots in question are part of a group known as “Oath Keepers,” a non-partisan association of current and former U.S. soldiers, police and first responders who aim to protect defend the U.S. Constitution.
The men quickly caught the attention of the bigoted leftist media who had been vying for a news story to break involving Ferguson. Apparently it wasn’t enough that ‘protesters’ had just days before marked the one-year anniversary of the killing of an unarmed black teen by police by rioting and shooting at police.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit civil rights organization (also known as Progressives-R-US) has described the “Oath Keepers” as a “fiercely anti-government, militaristic group” despite the fact that “Oath Keepers” consists mainly of Law Enforcement and Military Veterans (sounds like SPLC missed the mark yet again).
The leftist media continued their fearful tirade, questioning whether the Oath Keepers had the legal ability to carry firearms, despite the obvious intent of a recent amendment to Missouri’s Constitution which clearly outlines Missourian’s freedom to carry firearms openly without a permit. Another strike out for the MSM.
“There is no exception for a state of emergency for these laws not to apply,” said Marcia McCormick, a professor of law at St. Louis University Law School.
State law prohibits brandishing a weapon in an “angry or threatening manner,” McCormick said, but that standard is subject to interpretation.
“Clearly the people who are carrying these weapons are trying to send a message that some might see as threatening but it’s probably not a violation of the statute,” McCormick said.
One leftist writer voiced the concerns of rioters on the streets of Ferguson, who supposedly had questioned the “wisdom of openly carrying such heavy weapons into an emotionally charged situation.”
Gun Rights advocates quickly responded, informing the writers that the firearms are not all that heavy when equipped with a sling, though it is obvious that the propaganda machine the writer works for had intended to convey a different message with the word “heavy weapons”. We also wonder as to the validity of the Ferguson Rioters sense of wisdom, after all, their actions aren’t all that wise.
A small group of Oath Keepers, led by a man identified only as John, wore plate carriers and carried their rifles with barrels pointed downward. All in all, the reporters struggled to demonize their actions, though that is not to say they did not try.
“There were problems here, there were people who got hurt. We needed to be prepared for that,” said John.
Members of the group previously patrolled the streets of Ferguson for a time in November without incident, after riots erupted when a grand jury found that a police officer had committed no crime after shooting a threatening robbery suspect.
Sunday night’s protests were punctuated by gunfire, and police shot and critically wounded a man accused of firing on police. The leftist media attempted to report that the police had unjustly shot this man as well, owing their claim to the victims father who was not present during the time of the shooting. As it turns out, the leftist media was wrong yet again.
An Infowars representative acknowledged by telephone that the Oath Keeper’s had a presence in Ferguson but said it had not asked them for security.
